Or just imagine being in the office. Everyone is focused working when your mini fridge decides that start making its midday noises.
Sometimes it’s really hard to get into the right mindset just to be annoyed by your mini-fridge loud noises.
The last thing that you want is having Karen from HR calling you to her office to discuss your “mini fridge problems”…
The worst part is that after all of that you are back to your spot. Sitting there, side glancing your noisy mini fridge, with the constant reminder that you did a bad choice and asking yourself, why did I even buy it?
Hopefully, you didn’t buy yours just yet and it’s not too late… Or perhaps you already suffered from a noisy compact refrigerator and you are looking for the best quiet mini fridge.

A versatile and functional quiet mini fridge
Want it Cold or want it warm? Adjust it at will with an easy-to-read digital display.
Controlling the temperature hasn’t got prettier and easier than this.
The Cooluli Concord cools down to 35°F – 40°F (1.6°C – 4.44°C) below ambient temperature and warms up to 149°F (65°C) thanks to its internal thermostat.
In my opinion the best part of the Cooluli mini fridge is its ECO mode. You don’t need to worry anymore about how much power it might be consuming. Once this mini fridge reaches its desired temperature, it will reduce by half its energy consumption.
Thanks to its exclusive EcoMax Technology this unit uses a unique cooling design, making it extremely quiet and efficient.
Don’t limit yourself to stay indoors with it. Having both AC and DC cords available screams “take me with you”. Take the enjoyment to the next level with its versatile use while in the car, picnics and fishing trips.
It was never so easy to keep your cold drinks or food warm while on the go. That’s why I have this mini fridge listed as one of the best portable mini fridges currently available too.
If that wasn’t enough, the Cooluli Concord Mini Fridge has a sleek design and it comes in 4 different colors for you to choose from.

A quiet compact refrigerator
I know this gets a bit far from being considered mini, but the Lanbo Wine & Beverage Refrigerator really deserves to be on this list.
Before getting into its details and features I do really think that this unit really deserves to be praised by its looks. Its premium look and feel will definitely make a difference in any kitchen, bar area or even an office.
This is probably thanks to its double-layered door, wood and stainless steel finishes inside. The fact that you can fit up to 18 bottles and 55 cans does make a difference too.
Another thing that no-one will notice but does make a difference is its carbon filter, guaranteeing an odor-free environment for your drinks.
Left door or right door?
Each door cabinet offers a different experience.
Are you a Pinot, Merlot, Champagne or Sauvignon lover? Take a look at the wooden shelves in the left where you can place some of your favorite bottles, and choose between 41ºF – 64ºF (5ºC – 18ºC) for your favorite wines.
Or maybe you just want to keep them for special occasions… That’s why you have the right door. You can fit up to 55 beers or soda cans and keep them at an optimal temperature of 39ºF – 50ºF (4ºC – 10ºC).
Is the Lanbo refrigerator quiet?
The Lanbo beverage refrigerator is extremely quiet. As you would expect from a high-class fridge with this size, it does run with a compressor. This means that the Lanbo LB36BD-1 is really quiet after its first 5 minutes.
Once the cooling start-up phase is over. The only instance where it can get a bit more noisy is when its compressor is running. An LED indicator on its top will indicate you so. But do not worry, it does not go above 42db, which is as loud as inside a library….
If you want to make the most of this quiet compact refrigerators make sure of the following:
- Don’t connect it to the power source as soon as it receives it at home. Instead, I recommend you to leave it 12 hours in a stand upright position. This will reduce the chances of a malfunction in the cooling system after its transportation.
- Leave some space at the back of the refrigerator (at least 2 inches – 5cm) to let heat dissipate properly.
And by the way, you don’t have to worry about someone “accidentally” taking advantage of your premium drinks without asking… Two safety locks got you covered on each door.
Campers, RVs owners and truckers, you will love this one.
A silent compact refrigerator
The SMETA SDW-30-2 is as compact as a mini fridge can be.
Many satisfied customers agree that the higher price tag is justified. Mainly, because of its unique dimensions, enclosed design and quietness.
From a design perspective it does look close to the Danby DAR026A1BDD-3 (which I do cover below), it does seem however that this compact fridge is one of the favorite options for truckers. Several Cascadia drivers (a truck trype…), have mentioned that it does fit perfectly inside their truck.
The SMETA is AC / DC compatible (not the rock band… Sorry I can help it but throw these jokes when I can…). It’s really as simple as plugging it into a standard AC power socket or your car / truck cigarette lighter and you’re good to go.
It does have a really low consumption level, with just about 0.7 kWh
Once you have it running you will notice that its temperature can easily go below 50ºF (10ºC) in just a couple of hours.
You will be glad to know that this SMETA Mini Fridge works without compressors or fans and with absorption instead. I do cover the differences on each one at the bottom of this article.
The summary is: absorption fridges are the quietest option than you can currently find in the market.
A thing to keep in mind, satisfied customers mention that its interior light only works when the unit is plugged in an AC socket, it will not while using the DC cord. A nice touch since this feature won’t affect its cooling capabilities but will save some battery inside a vehicle.
- Brand name: hOmelabs
- Color: Stainless Steel
- Model Number: HME030210N
- Capacity: 3.3 cu.ft. – 93 liters
- 3 removable shelves
- Write on it with a wax crayon or dry erase marker
- Width: 17.7 in. – 44.9 cm.
- Depth: 15.6 in. – 39.6 cm.
- Height: 33.5 in. – 85 cm.
- Weight: 45.2 lbs – 20.50 kg
A silent mini fridge
I’ve been analyzing over 300 reviews from confirmed buyers and the summary is that the hOmelabs mini fridge is: “Perfect for ANY area”.
The hOmelabs silent refrigerator is slightly larger than your normal mini fridge. It’s big enough to store a week worth of food for a single couple. It does depend on what you eat I guess… 3.3 cubic feet (93.45 liters) are plenty for me and my wife.
Its 3 removable shelves do help a lot, there is always room for everything that you might need. Or you can make it, if needs be.
If that wasn’t enough, on its reversible door you will find plenty of space for your soda cans plus a compartment that can hold a 1 liter bottle plus a bottle of wine.
Be aware of the interior lighting though… Because there’s none. Instead, when picking a midnight snack, make sure to turn on the lights…
A standard temperature control knob allows you to choose three preset temperatures (Max, Mid or Min). To give you some reference, the Mid (medium) temperature setting will cool down this mini fridge to 35ºF – 40ºF (1.6ºC – 4.4ºC).
And this is what one satisfied customer had to say about its noise level;
Another interesting feature that you don’t find in many mini fridges is that you can write on its door. This is because its made of stainless steel, so you can write down the grocery list or some notes and wipe it off with a cloth and warm water.
Just make sure to always be using a wax crayon or dry erase marker. Or that “To-buy” list will be forever…
Cost-effective and Eco-friendly silent mini fridge
It’s no coincide that the Danby DAR026A1BDD-3 is listed as a Top 10 unit on most review sites… And I do have to agree. Thanks to its features, size, efficiency and lack of noise this is a mini fridge worth considering buying.
This compact fridge features an anti-scratch surface. It’s not like you are going to use it as a worktop to chop vegetables, but it can be handy if you have a confined space and want to place a microwave on its top. Or perhaps use it as side table… I still remember my dorm days…
Another interesting feature of this unit is that it runs with R600 Refrigerant. It’s a hydrocarbon that is becoming more popular thanks to its low Global Warming Potential.
If that wasn’t enough, this compact fridge has been listed in the Energy Star program thanks to its low energy consumption. The environment will thank you, and your pocket too, since a lower energy consumption means a few more dollars at the end of the year.
Although I’m reviewing the 2.6 cu.ft size there is a bigger size option available with 4.4 cubic feet (124.59 liters), the Danby DCR044A2BDD-3.
Controlling the Danby’s temperature is done through a thermostat dial inside the refrigerator. Its compressor will activate and start working as soon as the temperature rises above your desired level.
This unit comes with a “Push Button” (semi-automatic) defrost system. Located in the center of the temperature control knob. Activating it is just as simple as pressing the red defrost button.
Once the defrost cycle is complete, the “Push Button” will release automatically. Definitely an interesting option compared to most mini fridges that do not have this feature.
A quiet compact refrigerator with freezer
I’m aware that many of you would like to have a mini fridge but you are worried about it being too small.
With 3.2 cubic feet (90.61 liters), this Costway Compact Mini Refrigerator might be the answer you are looking.
For an interesting low-price this quiet compact refrigerator features a separate freezer with a 1 cubic feet (28.32 liters) capacity. On its main compartment, with its 2.2 cubic feet (62.3 liters) of capacity, you will be able to fit up to 175 soda cans with temperatures that range from 32ºF to 50ºF (0ºC to 10ºC).
Doing research online I found a promotional video from Costway that does a great job covering its main features:
What’s quite impressive is its low energy consumption. The Costway 22672GR-CYEP will reach 400 Watts per hour once it’s starting up. Moving to 100 Watts per hour once it reaches your desired temperature range.
In terms of noise, I couldn’t find a single complaint going through 200 reviews. In fact, I think that the following review will tell you exactly how quiet this compact fridge is;
What is the Quietest Mini Fridge?
The quietest mini fridge that you can currently buy is the Smad DW30CE.
This was hard to answer given the amount of mini fridges available online, but after my research I can confirm that it’s indeed the quietest mini fridge currently available.
- Brand name: Smad
- Color: Black
- Model Number: DW30CE
- Capacity: 1.0 cu.ft. – 30 liters
- Absolute silence, even in small rooms.
- Can be used with 110V (AC) and 12V (DC)
- 3 removable shelves
- Width: 16.5 in. – 41.91 cm
- Depth: 15.8 in. – 40 cm
- Height: 19.7 in. – 50 cm
- Weight: 29.8 lbs – 13.51 kg
0 Decibels. 0 Noise.
Literally, you won’t hear a single peep (or humming sound). It’s so quiet that you will even think that the unit is not working properly.
This is thanks to its absorption cooling technology, the refrigerator runs very quiet, which is perfect for small spaces, dorm rooms, RVs, trucks, baby rooms, etc.
Do you know who else can be really quiet? Someone trying to take your drinks without permission. You will be glad to know that this unit comes with a built-in lock to avoid these type of surprises.
It looks simple. It looks elegant. Its smaller version (1 cubic feet – 28.3 liters) looks somehow, like a black box. Note that there are two more versions available of 1.4 and 1.7 cubic feet (39.6 liters and 48.14 liters).
If lack of space to fit your appliance is your main concern, other than making sure that its dimensions do fit your needs, you will be glad to know that this unit does come with a reversible door. This means that you can either install the door to open from left to right or right to left.
I’ve mentioned above that this mini fridge is great for RVs and trucks and this is because the Smad DW30CE comes with both an AC and DC plugs. Do keep in mind however that if you are using the 12v plug for your car (the DC one), its interior light will not work. A nice feature since you will be saving some precious battery energy.
Regardless of how you decide to plug it, the Smad DW30CE temperature range goes from 37.4°F to 53.6°F (3°C to 12°C), plenty of cooling power to keep all your drinks and food cold which can be easily adjusted with a temperature dial on its top section.
Do keep in mind that this unit is not the cheapest one in the market. But I’ll rather spend $10 to $20 more, than having something buzzing and humming all day in my bedroom. I rather choose silence instead.
If you do prefer silence too, then the Smad Mini Fridge with Lock Compact Refrigerator is your currently your best option.
Why do mini fridges make noise?
I know, it’s even surprising to me how some of these mini-fridges can be so noisy being so tiny!
But yes… They can get quite noisy sometimes. Why?
I’ve noticed that full-sized refrigerators tend to make less noise, so why did full-sized refrigerators are often silent while smaller versions tend to be noisy?
I did some research online and I found explanation that made the most sense
According to this comment on Reddit:
The compressors in larger refrigerators also run more efficiently.
Although this comment is right, I found that there is an extra fact to consider. The mini fridge cooling technology.
What kind of Mini Fridge is Quiet?
There are three cooling methods refrigerators: compressors, thermoelectric and absorption cooling.
- Compressors aren’t noiseless, but they are the most power-efficient.
- The thermoelectric cooling method is quiet, but just halfway in terms of energy consumption.
- Absorption-powered fridges are the quietest. Compact refrigerators with this type of cooling method are more efficient than thermoelectric units but less efficient than a compressor though.
Why is my mini fridge making noise?
If any of the mini fridges listed is making noises, consider the following:
- Detect the source of the noise. Depending on where the noise is coming from it could mean one thing or another.
- If you hear a rattling noise that seems to be coming from the bottom it’s likely the drain pan. This is where water from inside the fridge evaporates. In order to fix it just secure the drain pan back in place.
- A loud noise coming from the back of your fridge could be either the defrost timer (if you have it), the condenser fan or the compressor.
- The condenser fan, is the easier one to fix, since it’s likely to have some dust and debris accumulated on the fan blades. Do make sure to unplug your compact fright before going ahead and cleaning it though!
- A compressor, unless it is extremely loud, some noise is normal. If it’s a really loud buzzing sound it’s probably because the unit is vibrating against something. A way to fix it is to brace it with something that absorbs vibrations. Once, I managed to fix one just with a piece of plastic that I had running around and I just wedged it to make vibrations stop. To this date I think my friend never had an issue again with it.
- For the defrost timer, your only option unfortunately is to find a replacement and change it.
- A noise coming from inside is probably due to the fan that circulates the air from your freezer to your fridge section. If while your fridge is open your push the light switch in the freezer (to pretend that the freezer door is shut) and the noise gets louder, it’s indeed coming from this section. Your only fix unfortunately, will be to replace the fan.
An additional resource is to check if the fridge is still under warranty. Most companies offer at least 1 year. Your best bet is to call their customer support and see what else can be done.
Given its popularity, features and price I’ve decided to make an in-depth review of the Midea (WHS-65LW1) mini fridge.
