Midea, a long history of quality appliances

It has been since 1968 that Midea has been offering quality appliances. Midea has become an international leader thanks to their research and manufacturing technologies.
It’s no surprise that one of the best-selling Midea mini fridges has so many good reviews on Amazon. In fact, I’ve already done a brief review of this unit in my best Mini Fridge with lock article that I’ve published not long ago.

Given its popularity, features and price I’ve decided to make an in-depth review of the Midea WHS-65LW1 mini fridge.

It’s almost a guarantee that this compact refrigerator will fit perfectly in any space thanks to its size and that it features a reversible door swing

Midea mini fridge on a carpet

The only instance where you might struggle a little is if you are planning to place this compact refrigerator on a carpet floor. If that’s the case, my suggestion is for you to cut a piece of 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood so you can make sure that the door swings free. This might be an overkill if your carpet is not too thick, but better be safe than sorry.

This midea mini fridge with freezer is really quiet, its noise level is listed as 42.0 Db, which means that is as quiet as inside a library.

How to make the midea mini fridge noise stop

If you do hear more noise than usual, it means that your refrigerator is not balanced. This is why it has adjustable legs. Use a balance to make sure that is properly leveledYou might think that your floor is totally flat, but that might not be the case and, in return, it causes the mini fridge to make more noise that it should.

Capacity

The Midea WHS-65LW1 has a 1.6 cubic feet (45.31 l) capacity, which means that it can handle 24 small bottles. It even features a large storage rack for 2L bottles inside. It comes as well with a slide-out wire food cabinet, which helps a lot to keep things organized.

Temperature control

A dial type thermostat will assist you to set its temperature from 32ºF to 35.6ºF (0 ºC – 2 ºC). The freezer section (surprise, it does have a small one) can go as low as 12ºF (-11 ºC). In other words, the freezer is cold enough to make ice (as it should be…). In fact, it does even include a tiny ice cube try!

How the freezer works

This Midea white mini fridge uses an evaporator chiller, a design that has been used for decades. Which, by the way, does not have a temperature control dial. It’s just going to be as cold as it can get.

Its freezer is formed by an evaporator coil (this is the part that keeps the refrigerator cold), curved into a U-shape inside the freezer section, then a little plastic door on the front keep the cold air in.

While the mini fridge is running, this small chamber can go as low as 12ºF (-11 ºC). The exact temperature where its refrigerant (isobutane) reaches its boiling point. The only thing to keep in mind is that, as many other fridges, this unit does not have a “real” freezer. Its temperature will start to increase if the fridge is not running. That being said, this does not become an issue. If your fridge is running occasionally, as it should, you should be fine to store any frozen goods that will fit inside.

If your mini fridge runs in a cold environment its freezer can become an issue, as I have explained on why my garage refrigerator is not working. The summary is, unless you have it insulated, your freezer will not work.

The Midea mini fridge only weights 35.3lb (16.01 kilogram). Which mean that is easy to carry too. Let’s say you need a mini fridge for college dorm. This compact refrigerator would be a great choice. Great for your office or even bedroom.

How much energy does Midea mini fridge use

In terms of energy consumption, according to its Energyguide sticker, this Midea mini fridge uses between 52 and 55 watts. Which means that will use about 207 kWh in a year (on average is about $25/year in the US).

Conclusion

In summary, the Midea WHS-65LW1 Compact Refrigerator is a great option, given its price, features, performance and the fact that over 1,000 real buyers of this product are happy with its performance and purchase I would recommend this mini fridge to others as a great option.
